EDUCATION GRANTS
Education grants for 2024 will open on 1 February 2025 and will close on 4 April 2025. Applicaiton are available online only throught the Perpetual Guardian Philanthropy Funding Hub. Education grants may only be applied for between these dates. Otama Marere supports eligible owners and their descendants with a first year tertiary grant of $1,000.00, a second year tertiary grant of $2,000.00 and third and subsequent year tertiary grants of $3,000.00. HUIA TAPSELL SCHOLARSHIP
Direct Descendants of an owner in the Otama Marere Trust may also be eligible to apply for the Huia Tapsell Scholarship in 2025. The sum of $1,000.00 will be awarded annually to one recipient. Students that apply must be enrolled in their first or consecutive years of postgrad students, or be in the 4th or consecutive year of study towards one degree (for example dentistry). KAUMĀTUA GRANTS
Otama Marere Kaumātua Grants are available for those aged over 60 years old. The payment is $300.00 for those eligible owners aged 60-69 years and $400.00 for those eligible applicants aged 70-79 years and $500.00 for 80 years and older. Payments are made in mid-December of each year.
In order to be eligible, an owner must meet the following criteria:

- The Applicant is a registered shareholder of Otama Marere or a beneficiary of a whanau trust that is a shareholder in Otama Marere;
- The Applicant has accurately and completely filled in the application form - a copy of which can be found below; and
- The Applicant has provided all requested supporting documentation both in the application and as requested by the Trust's Administrator.

THE WARWICK TAPSELL SPORTING GRANT
Otama Marere allocates an annual grant amount towards sponsorship of participation in Sporting activities with the goal of furthering the sports aspirations of Otama Marere owners and their descendants of the Trust. This grant is known as the Warwick Tapsell Sporting Grant. Applications are accepted year round.
The criteria for the Grant is as follows:
1. You must be an owner or a direct descendant of an owner or a beneficiary of a Whānau Trust which is an owner in Otama Marere Trust.
2. You must be selected to:
(a) Represent New Zealand overseas and compete in an international tournament or event against other players representing their country and/or
(b) Represent overseas – for travel to another country (with a regional or national team or overseas competition and/or
(c) Represent at the above levels in your country of residence (i.e. if you are resident in Australia and represent at a Regional or National level in Australia and are required to travel abroad to participate in an international competition.
3. You must provide written confirmation of selection and participation.
4. After the event, you must provide confirmation that you have participated
5. For overseas representation, you must provide travel details and costs you are required to meet.
6. Allocations of grants are entirely at the Trustee’s discretion and no reasons will be given for not approving the Grant.
7. Grants are considered on a case by case basis, up to a maximum of $1000.00.

TANGIHANA GRANTS
Otama Marere tangihana Grants in the amount of $300.00 are available to assist with costs associated with the tangi or funeral expenses of a registered shareholder of the Otama Marere Trust or a beneficiary of a whanau trust that is a shareholder in Otama Marere.
Tangihana Grant applications will only be accepted if the applicant meets the following criteria:
Tangihana Grants will be paid to an appropriate family member as decided by the trustees, marae, funeral director or to the executor or administrator of the estate on production of information to the satisfaction of the trustees. A copy of the Tangihana Policy and Tangihana grant form can be found below. Otama Marere makes available a discretionary grant of up to $1000 for representative Kapahaka, Hui-a-whanau, Whānau renunions, Hura Kohatu. All applications are discretionary and is dependant upon demonstrating a need or hardship.
